Cela devait être vers 1999, ou 2000, je ne sais plus trop. Au temps où j’avais la télévision, je zappais sur la chaîne Game One, vous savez, cette chaîne qui se consacre au jeu vidéo, et diffusait des anime de temps en temps (Escaflowne, Nadia…). Je n’y connaissais rien, et aujourd’hui ça n’a pas tellement évolué… Bref, voilà que mes esgourdes sont accrochées par une mélodie irrésistible, illustrant je ne sais quel clip de je ne sais quel jeu pour console, enfin bon, c’est un truc nippon qui s’appelle « Mon amour Tokyo » (avec l’accent, c’est chanté « mon amoulou ») et c’est de Pizzicato Five, un groupe dont je n’avais jamais entendu parler.
Je suis scotché. Sur le c**. C’est absolument fabuleux ! Absolutely fabulous ! De la pop sixties remixée drum’n'bass chantée en japonais, avec une évidence, une immédiateté, un truc différent qui sonne juste et totalement premier degré, j’adoooore ! J’ai alors écumé les fnuc, les à ma zone, pour me faire dire que désolé, on connaît pô. Des trucs japonais, vous comprenez, hein, c’est pas sérieux…
De fait, ignorant tout des dits Pizzicato Five, je devais me rendre à l’évidence : environ 17 (!!) albums sortis, sans compter les remixes et les compilations, dont pas le tiers distribués en occident, des titres anarchiquement référencés, BON COURAGE, vieux. N’écoutant que ma curiosité, j’achetais donc trois albums d’un coup, et vlan, sur la foi d’un titre écouté, je tombais sous le charme; définitivement. Encore aujourd’hui, Pizzicato Five est mon groupe préféré que j’aime des meilleurs du monde des plus forts. Enfin à peu près, et compte non tenu de nombreuses exceptions. Vous me suivez? Non? Dommage, tant pis. Paragraphe suivant.
Pizzicato Five, ce sont les parrains (au sens mafieux du terme) du mouvement Shibuya-Kei, un style originaire du quartier de Tokyo du même nom, qui mélange pop,
électro, hip-hop, lounge, acid-jazz, bossa-nova, et variété, de préférence française des années 60. Les principaux représentants en sont Flipper’s Guitar, Cornelius, Paris Match, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Towa Tei et donc, Pizzicato Five. Je vous avais déjà parlé de ces olibrius dans mon post sur la musique de Lupin III. En 15 ans d’existence, ils ont apporté leur folie, leur enthousiasme, leur joie de vivre à la scène pop nippone, et ont engendré un following qui a largement dépassé les cercles habituels des fans de la J-Pop.
Pizzicato Five c’est essentiellement le duo Yasuharu Konishi (fondateur, compositeur, arrangeur) et Maki Nomiya (chanteuse et égérie). De nombreux autres musiciens et chanteurs ont rejoint puis quitté le groupe au fil des années. 17 albums, donc, dont le point culminant est la trilogie « Romantique 96″, « Happy End of the World » et « Pizzicato Five 1999″. Je considère les deux premiers comme leurs chef-d’oeuvres, et 10 ans après, je continue à les mettre sur ma platine, avec un bonheur béat jamais diminué. « Romantique 96″ est une sorte d’hommage à la France musicale des années 60, avec des titres qui évoquent Gainsbourg (période Bardot) et Michel Legrand, tandis que « Happy End of the World » mixe intelligemment la pop sixties et la dance music des années 90.
Les vidéos du groupe sont aussi soignées que leurs morceaux, et participent du charme nostalgique, naïf et ensolleillé de leur musique. Ce qui me plaît, chez Pizzicato Five, c’est ce sens de la fête, ce côté « vivons heureux en attendant la mort », et cet enthousiasme à recréer encore et toujours une musique hors du temps, sans prise de tête, sorte de recréation d’un âge d’or où la musique, sans prétention à changer le monde, essayant au moins de le rendre plus amusant, et plus agréable à vivre. Rien que pour ça, Pizzicato Five doit être remercié, et restera, en tous cas pour moi, une bouée de survie, une cure de prozac, une fiasque pour la soif, un phare dans la nuit, une pluie d’étincelles. Un ciel bleu sans nuages.
