Ce que j’en pense :
Je n’avais encore jamais vu d’anime aussi traumatisant.
J’avais acheté le coffret il y a quelques mois, mais je n’osais pas le regarder – sa réputation d’oeuvre difficile à appréhender ne m’encourageait pas. Pourtant, j’avais beaucoup aimé Serial Experiments Lain, réalisé par à peu près la même équipe, et d’après les dessins du même artiste, Yoshitoshi ABe. On m’avait prévenu : Lain est une expérience sensorielle à part entière, mais ce n’est rien à côté de l’immersion que provoque Texhnolyze. Je confirme.
J’avais lu l’année dernière l’excellent article de Gen, Texhnolyze : Nietzsche, le Pathétique et le Divin, qui a reçu le prix du Jury des premiers Sama Awards (mérité) ; heureusement, il ne spoilait pas tant qu’il l’annonçait, et de toutes façons, aucun résumé ne permet de se préparer réellement à ce que l’on va voir. Le seul conseil que je puisse vous donner, c’est que si vous avez l’âme délicate, passez votre chemin, ce n’est pas la peine d’aller plus loin que le menu du DVD ; si vous pensez que vous allez pouvoir en sortir indemne, alors ok, allez-y, regardez mais… vous vous surestimez. Personnellement, j’ai été tellement impressionné (il est vrai que je suis impressionnable) que j’ai pensé qu’il valait mieux ne rien en écrire : chaque fois que je me mettais à mon clavier d’ordi, je voyais (et vois encore) certaines images traumatisantes revenir devant mes yeux. Alors, quitte à tenter l’expérience, faites comme moi : le soir, seul dans une pièce close et sans lumière. Comme ça l’immersion est totale. Tout de même, gardez la zapette à portée de main – c’est con de fouiller dans le noir pour la retrouver, ne regardez pas plus de trois épisodes d’affilée, et faites une pause entre chaque – ouvrez la fenêtre et respirez, par exemple. Juste histoire de vous rappeler que dehors, le monde réel n’est pas celui de Texhnolyze.
Si je recommande de réunir ces conditions, ce n’est pas pour déconner, mais bien pour goûter l’ambiance, et aussi pour une raison esthétique bien précise : de nombreux plans de l’anime sont saturés de couleurs sombres, et sont à « gros grain », comme vues à travers un objectif défectueux. Un salon trop éclairé empêche alors de distinguer les détails. Une fois en condition, ne plus reculer, il faut plonger. Je suis bien incapable d’analyser avec autant de recul que Gen, ce qui, je le répète, s’est produit ensuite, mais en gros :
- D’abord, je me suis pris deux premiers épisodes de folie, et ce n’est pas une expression galvaudée : une violence brute, qui explose dans un océan de solitude et de désespoir, où le manque de lumière accentue la crudité des sons mécaniques et des hurlements humains ; pas un mot ou presque n’est prononcé, rendant plus oppressante et réaliste la sensation de douleur. Aucune explication n’est encore donnée. Mais pas la peine de savoir trop tôt qui est qui, qui fait quoi : c’est montré au ras du bitume, du béton, de la flaque d’eau saumâtre, poissée de sang. Vivez-le : ou ne le vivez pas, et dans ce cas, dégagez. J’ai failli arrêter, mais quelque chose – une poésie noire, ou de la curiosité morbide, ou du masochisme – m’a ordonné de continuer.
- Ensuite, il y cette imprégnation progressive d’un univers de cauchemar, d’un décor brut, sans le moindre ornement : murs sales, tuyaux, câbles, couloirs, égouts, rien pour les dissimuler. L’enfer du décor, si j’ose dire, qui dans ses moments les moins glaucques rappelle les toiles de Chirico (non, pas Chihiro!) ; y évoluent en silence des ombres humaines, quasi muettes, certaines armés de sabres et dotés de prothèses. Alors que je m’habitue aux murs du labyrinthe, je m’aperçois que depuis le début, je ne m’en rendais pas compte, c’était la ville qui monopolisait la parole. Vers le milieu de la série le récit se calme, ralentit, prend momentanément l’apparence trompeuse d’une série yakuzas, avec règlements de comptes, guerre des gangs, combats et violence gratuite. Ce n’est pas que ce soit plus calme, en fait : c’est qu’on s’y habitue.
- La fin, forcément, est d’autant plus choquante, et déroutante, qu’elle survient alors que je suis en train de me laisser aller à cette confortable violence urbaine. L’autre violence qui surgit alors, bien plus révoltante et plus insidieuse, prend l’apparence de la perfection mécanique, du paradis artificiel, de l’absolutisme sans échappatoire. La fin propose à l’humanité l’alternative suivante : soit tu meurs en homme libre, au bout de tes convictions, l’arme au poing ; soit tu optes pour une immortalité illusoire, et tu renonces à toute l’humanité qui te reste, pour devenir une pauvre… chose. Alternative à peine tempérée par un troisième choix, pas moins atroce, celui de vivre au paradis, en forme de rêve éternellement bleu et ensoleillé, au milieu des champs de blé et des petites villes sans histoire, comme dans un tableau de Hopper, là où plus rien n’arrive. Pas même la mort.
Par comparaison, les libellules et les rats, seuls autres êtres vivants visibles dans les bas fonds de Lux, donnent une impression de franche liberté.
C’est complètement vidé, cuit, hanté, que j’ai terminé ce visionnage. Ecrire dessus ces quelques lignes, ces impressions mal construites, me permet de réfléchir la tête un peu plus froide à ce que j’ai regardé. D’exorciser la chose. Je ne dirais rien de ce qui arrive aux héros : Ichise, le pur, Ran, la fragile, Doc, la fière, Onichi, le calme, Yoshii, l’énigmatique… mais il y a de quoi être révolté. Que m’en reste-t-il? Des visions, au mieux, d’une beauté nostalgique, au pire, sorties du cauchemar le plus noir. A ce stade, encore et pour longtemps, je suis incapable d’analyser froidement Texhnolyze. Si on me demande, « c’est bien » ? je répondrai, « je l’ignore » . Mais il est trop tard pour regretter.

Je le disais déjà chez Gen mais malgré tout l’intérêt que je porte à la série (voir la passion) je n’ai jamais vraiment osé en discuter ni écrire dessus.

Arrête, rien que d’y repenser… Faut que je me repasse Ponyo en boucle au moins trois fois pour m’endormir sereinement.

Ravi que tu aies trouvé le temps de te pencher sur cette anomalie qu’est Texhnolyze. Je ne sais pas si j’ai vraiment plus de recul que toi vis à vis de la série, c’est surtout qu’il s’est écoulé quelques années avant que je trouve le courage d’écrire quelque chose à son sujet. Ce qu’il me reste au final, c’est cette humanité terrible et douloureuse, poussée dans ces derniers retranchements, qui est pourtant un hymne à la liberté face au désert sensible que nous présente le final de la série. Et puis il y a cette dernière scène, qui s’oppose à tout ça avec un personnage qui s’endort sereinement, et pour toujours…
Texhnolyze, c’est comme la pointe d’une allumette qui s’embrase brusquement et nous laisse livrés à nous mêmes dans le noir après nous avoir retourné l’estomac à de multiples reprises avec ses images comme les coups qu’elle porte à notre éthique, une expérience à part entière
je comprends ce que tu veux dire, c’est ce que je tente d’expliquer maladroitement en parlant des trois attitudes possibles à la fin : mourir en être humain libre, ou accepter le « progrès », ou rejoindre le paradis du dessus. le plus désespéré n’est pas celui que l’on croit. au fond, il y a quelque chose de très nippon dans ce choix, quelque chose qui rappelle la tradition du seppuku, ou du kamikaze. la mort dans l’honneur plutôt que renoncer à ce à quoi on croit.
