L’histoire :
Minako est une adolescente ordinaire, première en sport dans son collège, mais nulle en maths et en anglais. Elle pourrait ne se consacrer qu’à ses passions : la musique, les jeux vidéo, les idols, et les garçons en général. Mais depuis qu’Artémis, un drôle de chat parlant avec un croissant sur le front, lui a mis la patte dessus, elle est Sailor V, la « belle guerrière en uniforme qui défend la justice » , et elle doit sans arrêt contrecarrer les plans de la mystérieuse Dark Agency…
Ce que j’en pense :
Rien.
(Non je déconne). Mais franchement, qu’est-ce qui peut potentiellement m’intéresser dans un shojo dont l’héroïne n’a que 13 ans, avec un QI de vraie blonde, des lunettes atroces, et dont les aventures palpitantes consistent essentiellement à dégommer de temps à autres des ennemis mous du genou aux noms aussi improbables que (en VF bien sûr) Miaw-Miaw, Waf-Waf et Bzz-Bzz? Et dont les plans pour devenir les maîtres du monde consistent à trafiquer des karaoké, des bornes d’arcade ou des régimes amincissants? Non mais sérieux !
Lorsque je fais mes courses chez carouf (ma vie passionnante), j’ai l’habitude de faire un détour par le rayon bd/manga, mais plus par habitude qu’autre chose, vu que je n’y achète quasiment jamais rien : il n’y a que les shonen ou shojo catégorie blockbusters. La dernière fois, j’ai eu l’œil attiré par de nouvelles jaquettes flashy comme pas possible : Sailor Moon et Codename Sailor V. Je me suis dit qu’il ne fallait pas mourir idiot, et j’ai embarqué les quatre volumes (deux plus deux) pour me faire une idée. Très franchement, le début de Sailor Moon ne m’a pas emballé du tout : je trouvais le dessin plutôt moche (surtout les méchants de l’histoire), fouillis, et pour tout dire, l’histoire était aussi répétitive que cliché. J’étais en train de me dire que j’avais dépensé des sous pour rien, mais quand j’ai ouvert les deux volumes de Sailor V, il est arrivé quelque chose à quoi je ne m’attendais pas : je me suis marré.
Sailor V, c’est le prequel de Sailor Moon, avec en héroïne Minako, qui deviendra ensuite Sailor Venus. L’histoire est la même, sauf qu’il y règne une ambiance totalement délirante et second degré, qui rend comique les invraisemblables péripéties de l’intrigue. Alors que les héroïnes en costume marin prennent leur mission au sérieux, Minako, elle, fait le job avec un détachement princier, sans la moindre prétention, balançant ses « Crescent Beam » et autres « Moon Power Transform » avec des commentaires hallucinés, du genre « je me bats pour sauver les petits chats tout mignons » , imaginez comme les super-vilains doivent faire dans leur froc quand ils entendent ça. Là-dessus, on a droit a des 
séances de cosplay cosmique, Minako se transformant tour-à-tour (fille ou garçon) en danseuse hawaïenne, en chanteur de boys band, en samouraï ou en éleveuse de chats (cherchez, pas, c’est un concept). Ajoutez à cela qu’Artémis, le chat de l’espace (oui, il y a des chats partout dans Sailor V) n’a pas la moindre once autorité sur son apprentie justicière, et qu’il se fait balader de la première à la dernière page, et vous aurez peut-être une idée du côté portnawak de la chose.
Car c’est là le principal charme de cette série, qui à la différence de Sailor Moon ne joue pas la carte de l’humour seulement de manière ponctuelle : chaque case ou presque est ponctuée de commentaires, de détails qui tuent, à tel point que je doute que ce soit fortuit. Si Sailor V n’avait pas précédé Sailor Moon, j’aurais volontiers pensé qu’il en était la parodie. Un épisode est à ce titre révélateur, puisqu’on y voit une mangaka à succès publier le 50ème tome de son shojo intitulé « Aurora Wedding » , embauchant Minako comme assistante (alors qu’elle n’a aucun talent). Les autres épisodes passent en revue les obsessions des adolescentes, pour mieux les ridiculiser : les idols, les acteurs de dramas, les jeux vidéo, les petits animaux kawai, la mode, les cosmétiques, le chocolat, etc… En fait, paradoxalement, Sailor V a beau être un brouillon de la plus célèbre série de magical girls qui soit, sa lecture m’a fait l’effet d’un contrepied, avec son héroïne nunuche aux lunettes moches mais désarmante d’enthousiasme, son chat extra-terrestre fataliste, ses seconds rôles de comédie et ses méchants ridicules, voir complètement pathétiques… C’est idiot, c’est marrant, c’est un peu méchant et ça flashe dans tous les sens, c’est Sailor V. Je crains que je n’aille pas plus loin dans la lecture de Sailor Moon, du coup.
Seul bémol, si la réédition en deux tomes au lieu de trois est économiquement intéressante, l’inconvénient est de devoir manier des volumes peu souples car épais de presque 300 pages chacun, c’est un peu gros pour le petit format. Sinon, au moins, en deux volumes, voilà une série que Pika aura réussi à mener jusqu’à son terme.

Y a pas d’obligation, hein… sauf si tu aimes les expériences bizarres… d’autant qu’adepte du grand écart, je lis en ce moment un truc qui n’a rien à voir, un seinen formidable, Astral Project, sorti chez sakka il y a 5 ans, et j’ai tout une pile d’autres trucs en attente au pied de mon chevet…

Tu ne peux pas savoir comme cela m’a fait plaisir quand j’ai lu le titre de ton article. Et je suis aussi très content que tu apprécies. En fait, tu pointes bien, sans forcément le savoir, les défauts de la version manga de Sailor Moon.
Le manga Sailor Moon a été lancé en Février 1992, l’anime en Mars 1992. Il s’agit d’un projet prévu simultanément pour plusieurs supports, comme cela se fait parfois. Seulement, il sortait un nouvel épisode par semaine contre un nouveau chapitre par mois, et les deux devaient se maintenir à peu près au même point d’avancement de l’histoire ; d’ailleurs, les deux séries se sont toutes deux achevé en 1997, à un mois de différence. Au final, le manga compte 18 volumes, contre 200 épisodes pour l’anime ; ce alors qu’ils racontent exactement la même histoire. Résultat, nous avons deux œuvres très différentes : l’anime sacrifie au principe de l’ennemi de la semaine, prend le temps de développer ses personnages, de les faire interagir et de proposer de nombreuses situations comiques, tandis que le manga se doit d’aller directement à l’essentiel afin de tenir le rythme ; et l’essentiel – les moments-clés – ce sont les affrontements contre les grands méchants. Si l’anime est considéré par certains comme beaucoup trop lent – rares sont les épisodes qui font avancer l’histoire – le manga est carrément expéditif, et perd tout ce qui fait le charme de la version animée.
En parallèle, tu as Sailor V, dont 3 volumes furent produits en 6 ans, autant dire que la mangaka n’avait pas du tout les mêmes impératifs à tenir sur cette série. Or, Sailor V est beaucoup plus proche de l’esprit de l’anime de Sailor Moon, plus surréaliste – « Allons envahir la Terre en commençant par ce supermarché de quartier ou l’héroïne va justement faire ses courses ! » – plus drôle, et beaucoup plus proche du quotidien des personnages. J’ai été très positivement surpris par ce manga après avoir lu celui de Sailor Moon, qui m’avait lui déçu car il ne laissait pas aux héroïnes le temps de vivre ; et au lecteur le temps de respirer.
Je suis un grand fan de l’anime Sailor Moon, et cela va bientôt faire 20 ans (le 23 Décembre 2013) . Pour autant, je trouve la version papier dispensable ; l’esprit de Sailor Moon, je ne le retrouve que dans ce Sailor V.
Mon conseil, si tu as aimé Sailor V, serait donc de te laisser tenter par l’anime. Et si le nombre d’épisodes te fait peur, dis-toi qu’il est découpé en 5 arcs distincts.
J’avais commencé à lire le manga de Sailor Moon (la nouvelle édition) vu que ça manquait à ma culture et j’suis rassuré d’apprendre que je suis pas fou pour penser que l’histoire va trop vite. J’avais même cru qu’il me manquait des chapitres! Du coup, j’ai peur pour le remake anime de 2013 qui se dit plus fidèle à la version manga. J’espère que ce ne sera pas qu’une simple retranscription et que la nouvelle version anime va prendre le temps de développer ses personnages. Peut-être pas trop non plus, mais juste assez.
La 1ere fois que j’ai ouvert un volume de sailor moon (c’était il a fort fort longtemps) je me suis fait agressé à coup de bulles, plumes, rubans le tout enveloppé dans un dessin que je trouvais pas forcément génial. Quand on a connu que l’anime à l’époque ça fait un choc.

Effectivement le manga enchaîne sur les combats alors qu’avec l’anime on se farcie les sous fifres les plus ridicules sur un fond de scénar plat mais la touche d’humour en plus (avec la VF). Même en redécouvrant l’anime sur le tard j’ai accroché, par sur qu’il en soit de même pour le manga (sauf pour sailor V, là pour sur, ton avis me conforte dans mon idée d’achat
J’ai également lu l’intégrale de Sailor Moon, il y a quelques années, et je me souviens que lire chaque tome demandait un effort de concentration tellement il y en avait partout et que ça partait dans tous les sens! Et puis le trait est super fin, ça fait un peu mal aux yeux au bout d’un moment…
Par contre, j’entends beaucoup de bien de Sailor V ces derniers temps… Il va falloir que je penche sur son cas à la Minako!
Je suis (comme par hasard…) entrain de matter l’intégralité de la série TV (j’en suis à la moitié de la saison 2). C’est assez bizarre comme expérience parce que c’est plein de défauts, ça se répète, c’est mécanique… Et pourtant tu as quand même envie de voir l’épisode suivant… ^^’

bon, finalement je n’ai pas si mauvais goût et puis si c’est quand même le cas, je ne suis pas le seul (Kaeru, t’es toujours pas obligée, hein ^^). bon, Sailor V n’est quand même pas un chef d’oeuvre, mais c’est rigolo et WTF, comme on dit aujourd’hui. Je pense que c’est exprès, mais une autre partie de mon cerveau me dit que je vois du second degré là où il n’y a même pas l’intention de l’auteur. Dans cette hypothèse, c’est encore plus drôle, non?
quant à l’anime, je ne dis pas non, mais à mes conditions : sous forme d’un coffret dvd d’occase pas cher !
Sauf que je crois que la série TV n’est pas disponible en DVD en France (du moins, je ne l’ai jamais vu et sur les sites genre Amazon, c’est que de l’import). Peut être que la sortie de la nouvelle série fera ressurgir la première version qui sait…
zut, moi qui ai horreur de passer du temps à dwnlder du fansub… je le faisais au début pour découvrir mais je rachète tout en dvd maintenant. graver des galettes, c’est presque aussi cher et carrément chronophage (et moralement indéfendable).
Alors les DVD de Sailor Moon, c’est très compliqué… Une grande partie de la série fût disponible en VHS, puis la partie inédite de Sailor Moon – la fin de l’arc Super S qui n’avait pas pu être diffusée sur TF1 pour cause d’arrêt du Club Do – était sortie sous forme de DVD unitaires, aujourd’hui introuvables.
Il y a pas mal d’histoires qui circulent, selon lesquelles l’auteur aurait été à ce point consternée par l’édition américaine de l’anime qu’elle aurait demandé son arrêt de commercialisation ; ce qui expliquerait qu’aucune édition DVD n’existe en France malgré son potentiel financier. L’année dernière, Toei Animation a tout-de-même essayé de vendre les droits d’exploitation de la série à de nouveaux distributeurs en Europe, pour son 20ème anniversaire ; depuis, il paraitrait qu’un éditeur français s’est porté acquéreur, mais nous n’avons aucune nouvelle officielle.
