Je copie-colle ci-dessus, en intégralité, le compte-rendu du site officiel du Festival d’Angoulême. Oui, c’est exactement à cela que se réduit la communication du festival sur ses prix. Notez qu’au moins, en à peine une phrase, ils n’ont pas oublié l’essentiel : les sponsors.
Présenté ce dimanche dernier, le palmarès du 38ème Festival International de la Bande-dessinée a distribué 15 prix, dont un seul à un manga. Celui, donc, qualifié d’intergénérations. Outre le fait que le terme de six syllabes « intergénérations » est pour moi totalement imprononçable avant que j’aie bu mon premier café du matin, je me suis également interrogé sur sa signification. Selon la terminologie officielle, il récompense « une bande dessinée dépassant les catégories d’âge. Il est décerné depuis 2010« .
Woua, dis-donc, ça a l’air bien. In-ter-gé-né-ra-tions, voilà un joli mot-valise typique de la bande-dessinée européenne, qui s’adresse, depuis un certain reporter belge à houppette, aux « jeunes de 7 à 77 ans ». Je me demandais juste : est-il pertinent pour un manga? Notamment pour un seinen? Comment va-t-on expliquer à l’auteur, Monsieur Urasawa, que son « Pluto » s’adresse à tout le monde et pas spécialement au public seinen? J’imagine la gymnastique intellectuelle du traducteur, tentant d’expliquer au Sensei ce que le jury veut entendre par là.
Mais c’est une vue de l’esprit, rien n’indique que le prix ait été remis en mains propres, sachant que le site du Festival n’indique rien à ce sujet. Plus minimaliste tu meurs. La fiche de présentation de Pluto elle-même se réduit à 5 lignes. La plaquette de la sélection n’apporte rien de plus. SNCF et Fnac, tu les as partout et à chaque page, mais à part ça? Bon, faut que je me calme, allez sussucre Mackie.
Côté médias, c’est pas mieux, AFP, Fig, le Monde, Libé… Pluto est inconnu au bataillon. Il n’y en a que pour Spiegelman. Bodoï, dans son compte-rendu, cite vaguement Pluto comme « BD grand public ». Faut-il en déduire que ce prix n’est qu’un lot de consolation, pour faire politiquement correct? Ce prix a-t-il été donné au pif? Dans la sélection officielle, on ne trouve pas d’autre manga. En sélection patrimoine, Sabu & Itchi et Ashita No Joe (non récompensés) et en sélection jeunesse, Naruto et Détective Conan (non récompensés). Avec tout ça je ne sais toujours pas pourquoi Pluto est intergénérationnel… ou pas. En attendant, je vous propose le visuel du prochain Pluto, tome 7 à paraître le 15 avril. C’est pas un gros scoop, mais c’est déjà ça.
Bon sinon, rien à voir : aujourd’hui, 150 jours depuis la création des chroniques d’un newbie. En cumul des statistiques journalières, le présent blog a atteint ce matin les 20.000 pages vues, et les 10.000 visiteurs. Je crois que des vacances s’imposent. Fin février, une semaine à Londres ! Vous vous en fichez, mais ça va me faire bizarre, de ne pas bloguer pendant 8 jours d’affilée. Je verrai bien si je tiens. Je vais me préparer psychologiquement. 
Le FIBD égal à lui-même. Donner un prix à Pluto, c’était à la fois prévisible et « trop » facile, dans la mesure où nous parlons d’un manga écrit par deux des quatre mangaka (à ma connaissance) qui ont déjà été primés à Angoulême. Une solution de facilité, tout comme lorsque Shigeru Mizuki a reçu une récompense pour Opération Mort alors qu’il venait d’en avoir une pour Non Non Ba ; ce qui ne veut pas dire que ces ouvrages ne le méritent pas, mais cela manque de diversité. Là, pour Pluto, j’ai vraiment l’impression de que les membres du jury se sont dit : « bon, les gars, faut donner un prix à Pluto, mais lequel ? »
C’est un peu dommage, car avec leur sélection assez orienté bobo (mais que diable vient faire ce pauvre Naruto dans cette galère), ils donnent l’impression de se la jouer « Césars de la BD », et de récompenser des oeuvres de qualité qui ont besoin d’un petit coup de pouce médiatique. Là, non seulement Pluto se vend suffisamment bien sans qu’il ait besoin d’un prix au rabais (même des médias généralistes en ont parlé lors de sa sortie), mais en plus, un Ashita no Joe et un Sabu & Ichi accusent des ventes ridicules malgré leurs immenses qualités ; et que Cyborg 009 plafonne à 300 ventes par volume tend à prouver qu’une sélection seule (sans prix à la clé) ne suffit pas à assurer la popularité d’un titre.
Tiens, je me suis posé la même question que toi. Et j’en suis arrivée à à peu près la même conclusion, en plus pessimiste.
Pour ma part, j’ai plutôt pensé qu’il voulait remettre un prix à un manga, histoire de ne pas paraître trop rétrograde, mais qu’il ne voulaient pas que ce soit un prix trop représentatif, pour ne pas priver les BD de prix qui veulent dire quelque chose. Donc ils ont donné un prix qui ne veut pas dire grand-chose à un manga à la fois bon et populaire, pour limiter les critiques. Mais bon, ce ne sont que des suppositions fielleuses ^^
Gemini : C’est un fait moins connu que pour Naruto, mais les volumes récents de Detective Conan parviennent à se hisser dans les meilleures ventes manga. Sinon, les interventions récentes de Glénat (via forum, suite à l’augmentation de prix de Cyborg 009) indiquent qu’Ashita no Joe est leur titre Vintage qui a le plus de succès. Enfin… Je n’irais pas dire non plus que ces titres sont trop abordables pour être récompensés ^^ »
