Un newbie au Salon du livre : 1- samedi

Vu mon âge canonique, je n’ai pas attendu 2013 pour visiter mon premier Salon du livre, loin de là. Mais je n’y étais pas retourné depuis que je tiens ce blog, donc c’était bien pour moi une expérience de newbie. Et comme y survivre trois journées me semblait trop facile, je me suis imposé un challenge supplémentaire : m’y rendre avec une sciatique, shooté aux médocs jusqu’aux yeux, en trimballant un sac de plus en plus lourd au fur et à mesure que je le remplissais de livres. Heureusement, les occasions furent nombreuses de squatter en position assise, sur les stands et dans les salles de conférence. Et les rencontres assez enrichissantes pour garder mon cerveau éveillé, malgré les doses massives de drogues médicalement prescrites. Vais-je réussir à vous en proposer un compte-rendu cohérent?

Samedi.
9h30, devant le pavillon 1 du Parc des expositions de la porte de Versailles, je me heurte à une énigme : où se trouve donc l’entrée? Ce n’est pas indiqué par le plan. A ma gauche, un grand panneau  VIP-Auteurs-Libraires, ok c’est pas là. Plus loin, je vois Presse, mais le vigile m’explique que c’est pour les pré-enregistrements sans badges. Et donc c’est pas là non plus puisque j’ai un badge. Ah bon. Je ne me sens pas de taille à contester cette logique, donc je continue. Un Rémi Bodoi passant par là, visiblement aussi interloqué, me propose d’aller jusqu’à la prochaine porte, où on nous invite à retourner sur nos pas. Nââândéé? Ça tombe bien, j’adore marcher pour rien, surtout quand je boîte ! Finalement, un vigile un peu plus souriant décide de régler le problème en laissant entrer les accrédités par une porte de service. Il ne regarde même pas nos badges. Enfin dans la place !

Pour y découvrir le Salon à cet instant fugace où les stands sont pour la plupart déjà installés, mais encore vides de tout exposant. Le Manga Square complètement désert, ça fait bizarre. Cela ne va pas durer. C’est heureux, car une pensée coupable me traverse l’esprit : hop, ni vu ni connu, me servir dans les piles multicolores de mangas neufs, qui semblent me dire sournoisement : emporte-moi ! non, moi d’abord ! Alors que je me vois déjà succomber, j’aperçois les panneaux de l’exposition Garo. Je saisis l’occase pour fuir la tentation. Ouais, riez, mais à ma place vous auriez été tentés vous aussi. Garo, vous le savez, c’est cette revue d’avant-garde qui publiait des mangakas tels que Shigeru Mizuki, ou Yoshiharu Tsuge. Des textes affichés en racontent l’historique depuis sa création en 1964, et des numéros originaux sont disposés ouverts sous des vitrines, ce qui rend quasiment impossible de prendre des photos sans reflets, en tout cas pour mon très faible niveau de compétence photographique, comme l’atteste la photo ci-contre (une planche de Shirato Sanpei, l’auteur de Kamui Den, sur la 2ème guerre mondiale).

Alors que les allées commencent à se remplir rapidement, je décide de faire le tour de quelques exposants où j’ai des rencontres à confirmer : les éditions Picquier, les éditions de l’Iroli (leur stand sera pour moi un havre de paix tout au long de ces trois jours) et les éditions Fei, où je demande à un homme debout sur une chaise, en train d’accrocher des ballons, si l’auteur Patrick Marty est déjà arrivé. « C’est moi! » dit-il. Eh oui, sur les petits stands, même les auteurs sont mis à contribution ! Sylvie Chabroux, l’attachée de presse, arrive et nous libère une demi-heure, le temps nécessaire à ma première interview du salon. Patrick Marty est le directeur artistique de cette maison d’édition, il est également le scénariste des excellents Juge Bao et la Balade de Yaya. Après ce premier échange aussi instructif que sympathique, commencé au café attenant et fini sur le stand de la Mairie de Paris (il a fallu fuir une sono assourdissante), nous retournons au stand, vraiment petit mais un des plus joliment décorés que j’ai vus. Sylvie Chabroux m’offre carrément quatre albums, les seuls que je n’avais pas encore achetés de leur catalogue : le one-shot Nankin et les trois premiers albums de Shi Xiu, Reine des pirates, que je lirai d’une traite le soir même. Plus tard dans la journée, je ferai la connaissance de Fei, l’éditrice (ci-contre avec Patrick Marty), et de Nicolas Meylander, l’autre scénariste avec qui une autre interview sera également calée, pour le dimanche matin. Il est à peine 11 heures et j’ai déjà rempli une partie de mon programme du jour. J’épingle les deux badges de Yaya et de Shi Xiu, que plusieurs personnes m’environt, même la pharmacienne du boulevard Victor chez qui je referai le soir ma réserve de paracétamol…

11h15, je suis ravi de trouver comme prévu Bidib, ma consoeur blogueuse de Ma Petite Médiathèque, avec qui nous nous sommes fixés rendez-vous devant le stand de Taifu/Ototo : l’accueil y est toujours si agréable que c’est presque devenu une de mes bases. Bidib et le newbie passeront l’après-midi ensemble, en se racontant plein d’anecdotes (je vous laisse imaginer ce que vous voulez, c’est plus amusant). Nouveau passage à l’Iroli, où Marc Hanniet, peintre et illustrateur, nous fera nos portraits-minute (c’est bien mon profil, assez ressemblant, surtout l’air endormi).

Après des pizzas parfaitement insipides et largement surévaluées au food hall – mais un service rapide et des places assises, ce qui me rend le prix tolérable, nous enchaînons vers la scène numérique, où doit se tenir officiellement une conférence présentant l’exposition Garo. Je dis officiellement, parce qu’en réalité, l’horaire comme le thème en ont été changés à la quasi dernière minute par l’organisation du Salon. On aurait voulu saboter la conf de Zoom Japon, qu’on n’aurait guère pu mieux faire. Et puis je ne vois pas bien la raison du changement : j’ai cru entendre dire que l’organisation aurait jugé le sujet trop pointu pour attirer le public? Nââândéé? On n’a pas gagné au change, puisque la conséquence logique a été une salle quasiment vide. Et donc, avec deux blogueurs tous seuls au premier rang pour écouter un débat devenu « le seinen est-il l’avenir du manga » (ouah, comme c’est porteur), sauvé par la bonne volonté de l’animateur et par la qualité des intervenants (de gauche à droite sur la photo) : Stéphane Duval (le Lézard Noir), Caude Leblanc (Zoom), Rémi I., et Sam Souibgui (Komikku). Le sujet est certes assez tarte-à-la-crème mais les participants ont joué le jeu, et j’ai trouvé intéressants les témoignages des deux éditeurs présents sur leurs expériences respectives, Rémi apportant sa culture et une impressionnante pile de mangas, que, non, je n’ai pas réussi à embarquer (décidément, c’est ma journée kleptomane, soit je dois me faire analyser, soit faut que je revoie les doses de mes médicaments). En tous cas, Bidib et moi nous partagerons l’exclusivité de cette conf, puisqu’à ma connaissance, aucun autre blog ni média n’était présent. Retranscription dans les prochains jours. La conférence a été immédiatement suivie par la remise des deux prix Zoom Japon, celui des mangas décerné aux Enfants de la Mer de Daisuke Igarashi (personne de chez Sarbacane pour le recevoir), celui des romans à Pickpocket, de Fuminori Nakamura – cette fois, l’éditeur Philippe Picquier et la traductrice Myriam Dartois-Ako étaient bien présents pour recevoir le prix et dire quelques mots de remerciements.

Un peu plus tard, je remets ma casquette Journal du Japon pour la conférence Cesare, devant la grande scène du Salon, où je retrouve la joyeuse bande de Paul Ozouf, Dany, Charlotte, Céline Maxant, Leang Seng, mais aussi Pazu (Bidib, fais-moi plaisir, maintenant tu remplis le formulaire d’inscription à Sama, promis?). La conférence réunit Fuyumi Soryo et Motoaki Hara, respectivement mangaka et conseiller historique du manga Cesare (Ki-oon), soumis aux questions du décidément indispensable Rémi. Débat assez curieux, peut-être pré-formaté, ou alors est-ce dû à la traduction qui faisait un peu téléphone arabe? Toujours est-il que si certains points intéressants ont été soulevés (les sources historiques et artistiques, de Machiavel à Michel-Ange), je suis un peu resté sur ma faim, avec des réponses parfois sans rapport apparent avec les questions. Tandis que l’historien Motoaki Hara évoquait l’influence du manga et de son travail pour Cesare sur sa vision de l’histoire (sujet passionnant, mais trop vite conclu), Fuyumi Soryo nous gratifiait d’un assez beau portrait de Cesare Borgia, dessiné et filmé en direct, sous l’oeil attentif d’Ahmed Agne.

Mon devoir accompli (compte-rendu à venir pour le Journal du Japon), grâce à mon vaillant enregistreur à cassettes et à une prise de notes facilitée par les longueurs de traduction, je me rends chez Picquier pour rencontrer Florent Chavouet, le dessinateur des épatants Tokyo Sanpo et Manabé Shima, le temps de convenir d’un horaire pour une interview dimanche – la file d’attente étant déjà longue devant sa table pour les dédicaces. Il ne reste plus qu’à se diriger vers la troisième et dernière conférence du jour, animée cette fois par Sébastien Agogué, celle de LA star du Manga Square à ce salon, j’ai nommé bien sûr Takehiko Inoué. Sebastien le connaît bien, puisqu’il a travaillé chez Tonkam. De nouveau c’est sur la grande scène, mais cette fois je ne suis pas au premier rang, mais… au dernier, vu la foule, avec Jean-Baptiste Bondis, qui a eu la veine (et surtout le mérite, car il a fait le job comme il faut) d’interviewer le sensei en face-à-face, en exclu pour JDJ. Et là, ce fut le show. Standing ovation et tout et tout. Autant la conf Cesare avait ce côté légèrement agaçant des rendez-vous formatés, autant Inoué a assuré le job avec ce mélange de décontraction et de professionnalisme qui est la marque des pros aguerris. Bon, vanné comme j’étais, j’ai un peu plané pendant l’interview, mais il m’a été confirmé par plusieurs personnes de l’assistance que les réponses étaient des redites de différentes interviews passées. Ce qui n’était pas du tout une redite, en revanche, c’étaient certaines questions du public (évidemment, quand il y a trois pelé et un tondu, je me dévoue pour les poser, mais là, il avait trop de monde pour éviter les conneries – enfin, les conneries encore pires que les miennes). On a bien débuté avec une question pleine de suffisance d’un otaku anonyme (enfin que je connaissais pas), genre, « c’est très peu connu mais vous avez signé une histoire sur le football » (mais, oui, bonhomme, très peu connu, sauf par toi, et ben, O-S-E-F), puis on a eu deux ou trois jeunes otakettes énamourées qui ont tenu à démontrer leurs connaissances de la langue nippone mais avec des questions ineptes (O-S-E-F puissance 2), et puis enfin la perle des perles, le collector (je cite de mémoire) : « Monsieur Inoué, vous avez travaillé comme assistant de Tsukaja Hojo sur City Hunter, dans quelle mesure l’avez vous influencé? » Nââândéé? (excusez-moi, c’est un nouveau tic de langage idiot que j’ai chopé en lisant un petit livre dont je vous parlerai une autre fois – et puis ça fait mieux que dire « non mais allô quoi« ). Inoué, très classe, a quand même répondu à ça. Avec le sourire.

18h30 passées. Le temps a finalement passé assez vite, que ce soit sur les stands, pendant les confs ou bien simplement à se promener, et à discuter en compagnie de Bidib. Le occasions ne sont pas si fréquentes de croiser des blogueurs/euses d’autres régions, et je n’ai pas été déçu. C’est à refaire. Avant de partir, j’aperçois, près de Pazu et de Corti, d’autres têtes connues, la plupart rencontrées à l’Epitanime, dont le meilleur (ou le pire, c’est selon) lâcheur de comms de la blogosphère otaku : vous aurez reconnu Rukawa, bien entendu. Je n’en suis qu’à la moitié de mon salon. Mes lombaires ont à peu près tenu le coup. Il me reste encore les journées de dimanche et de lundi. La suite au prochain numéro.

    Je crois t’avoir reconnu quand tu es allé dire bonjour à Corti ;) . Je suis aussi allée à la conférence sur Garo, et comme je n’étais pas au courant du changement de sujet, je me demandais si je me suis trompée! D’ailleurs, Stéphane Duval a dû se demander ce qu’il faisait là ^^; . Pour ma part, je n’ai pas vraiment trouvé ce débat réussi, mais j’ai la mémoire courte malheureusement. Je trouve qu’il y a eu des amalgames entre le seinen en soi et ce qui est plutôt young. Alors quand on parle de maturité dans le seinen, j’ai envie de dire « lol » parce que beaucoup de seinen en France sont plutôt des titres young, ce que j’appellerais vulgairement du shônen amélioré, avec plus de possibilité de montrer des nichons et plus de sang, sans forcément la maturité derrière.

    Quant à Fuyumi Soryo et Motoaki Hara, j’ai été déçue par cette rencontre. Je l’attendais pourtant (déjà que j’attendais l’édition française de Cesare depuis xx années xD), et j’espérais, même si bateau, qu’elle serait intéressante, comme ce fut le cas l’an dernier avec Mari Yamazaki (m’ayant finalement donné envie de lire Thermae Romae alors que ce n’était pas prévu, car la mangaka m’a beaucoup plu). Il y avait effectivement le côté téléphone arabe, et on pouvait se gratter la tête lorsque les réponses arrivaient. D’ailleurs, j’ai même décroché à certains moments.

    Enfin, pour Inoue, alors là, c’est clair, la STAR. J’ai pu mettre un visage sur ce mangaka, et je dois dire qu’il a une bonne bouille. Rencontre assez banale, mais il est dommage qu’elle se soit si peu penchée sur REAL, étant très tournée Slam Dunk et Vagabond. J’aurais aimé un truc un peu plus poussé, vu qu’il était sûr que le public serait composé de fans ayant lu une bonne partie de ses oeuvres. Quant aux questions du public ^^; tu le formules bien mieux que moi. La perle avec Hojo, mais aussi la énième question sur une suite hypothétique de Slam Dunk. J’aurais dû oser et demander si Haruko est bien la soeur adoptive de Akagi, si il y aurait un spin off sur Akagi dans sa vie d’adulte, le remercier d’avoir créé ce personnage dont je suis fan… (je me sens parfois très seule d’ailleurs)…

    L’expo Garo était vraiment très réussie, très intéressante mais il fallait rester pour lire les panneaux. J’ai dû me boucher plusieurs fois les oreilles pour me concentrer vu qu’il y avait un fort bruit de fond samedi après-midi. Quant aux rencontres, je crois que la surprise vient à Li Kunwu avec comme animateur Joel Dubos, journaliste de BD généraliste. La rencontre était pour le coup préparée, Dubos ayant lu, analysé (voire décortiqué) Une vie chinoise, ainsi que les influences graphiques de Li Kunwu. Les questions étaient intéressantes, mais j’ai la mémoire courte. Après avoir parlé de Une vie chinoise, Dubos a poursuivi avec Les pieds bandés qui est sorti très récemment. Alors que je n’étais pas sûre de participer à cette conférence, ce fut la meilleure de la journée, m’attendant clairement à un truc très bateau vu que Li Kunwu n’est pas particulièrement connu. D’ailleurs, il y avait quelques péquenots présents, et surtout je faisais baisser la moyenne d’âge…

      merci pour le compliment. faudra qu’on se parle irl, pourquoi pas à Epitanime, vu que je compte y aller cette fois les mains dans les poches !

      ah oui la conf Li Kunwu je l’ai regrettée, mais j’étais pris ailleurs, j’ai quand même pu l’approcher dimanche et échanger quelques mots (courts et banals hélas, la traductrice semblait accaparée ailleurs) et surtout repartir avec un dédicace sur son one-shot. un vrai petit dessin, pas juste une carte pré-imprimée signée. d’ailleurs étonnamment, je suis reparti du salon avec plusieurs chouettes dédicaces, mais pas une seule d’un japonais !

        On peut voir quelques trucs sur Une vie chinoise. Il s’agissait d’une étude déjà faite pour Blois. La nouveauté fut l’analyse du style graphique dans Les pieds bandés.

        C’est dommage que cette conférence ait si peu intéressé. En même temps, Li Kunwu n’est pas japonais, c’est tout de suite moins sexy… On sentait l’absence totale de fans de manga, y’avait que des vieux d’ailleurs (oui, plus que toi).

        Je ne suis pas une habituée des conventions en fait ;) je ne vais jamais à la Japan Expo (et la seule fois de ma vie, en 2011, m’a suffit, plus envie d’y mettre les pieds ^^; ) mais je n’ai jamais fait l’Epitanime. Pour le Salon du livre, c’est différent: il y avait tout ce tapage autour de Cesare, j’étais bien obligée de vivre ça après avoir tant attendu ce manga! D’ailleurs, c’est la première fois qu’un titre que j’attends bénéficie d’un tel tapage, d’habitude, ça sort point barre!

        Aucune dédicace pour ma part, mais aucun achat :) . Même pas Cesare: je l’ai acheté à sa sortie pour le lire avant la conférence!!!

        J’ai aussi assisté (mais avec une pause toilettes entre temps…) à la rencontre avec Hikaru Nakamura. C’était plus interactifs que d’autres conférence, mais ça restait léger. Et puis cette interdiction de prendre des photos =/ (d’ailleurs, elle est toute mimi la mangaka!).

          (excuse-moi mais ton comm est resté une demi heure en attente avant que je m’en aperçoive, mon filtre antispam met systématiquement en quarantaine les comms contenant deux liens externes ou plus)

          merci pour les infos. il n’y avait pas non plus d’attente pour approcher Li Kunwu en dédicace, ça m’a fait un peu de peine, vu son talent.

    Rohhh, nan mais là je suis jaloux. C’est pas bien de narguer les gens en parlant d’une rencontre avec Takehiko Inoue.
    Sans dec, j’adore ce mangaka ! Son travail est phénoménal !

    … Et puis mince, t’as passé un bout de temps avec Bidib et Corti en plus ! Dingue ça :)
    Je regrette presque mon séjour au Futuroscope (faut dire que j’y ai laissé ma voiture, qui a rendu l’âme la pauvre…)

      Bidib, elle est super sympa c’est vrai, j’espère que je ne l’ai pas trop saoûlée avec bon bavardage. Corti, je n’ai fait que le saluer vite fait quand je l’ai aperçu, et on a échangé quelques mots encore un peu le soir mais on se reverra sans doute ailleurs – ah merde, t’as cassé ton auto? paix à son âme.

        Ouep, c’est le mois de la loose pour moi donc bon, je dirais que ce n’est qu’une péripétie de plus (dont je me serait passé évidemment, ça va ma coûter plus cher que les deux autres faits marquants du mois : un locataire qui paie pas son loyer et une facture EDF de 450 € pour un autre locataire qui a gravement abusé du sauna faut croire…).
        Vivement le mois d’avril je crois ^^

        Bidib on s’est raté de peu, elle a failli venir à Angoulême pour le festival de la BD mais elle était un peu juste pécuniairement parlant. Elle s’est refait pour le Salon du livre hehe. C’est partie remise.
        Corti je le vois globalement une fois par an depuis quelques années maintenant. On devrait pas tarder d’ailleurs, d’ici environ 3 mois :)

    Le mystère de la conférence autour de l’expo Garo est donc élucidé.
    Je l’ai cherché toute la matinée. Personne n’a pu me renseigner. Sur le programme c’était indiqué 18 h 30…
    C’était la rencontre à laquelle je voulais assister…
    J’ai été assez déçue par les autres. Mais j’ai du mal avec les conf en général.
    Je préfère des sortes de tables rondes, il y a possibilité de débat ou de discussion.
    C’est forcément plus original et mieux travaillé dans le sens où il y a un médiateur qui organise la réflexion et qui consulte les intervenants sans pour autant enlever la spontanéité. Ça dépend aussi des intervenants certes.

    Tu vois moi je me suis fait mal au dos samedi. Je ne suis pas revenue dimanche, j’étais KO.

    Florent Chavouet est l’une de mes premières interview, j’avais eu le droit à un cochon de compagnie ! Pur plaisir.

      le pire, c’est que le changement d’horaire (pas le changement de thème) était annoncé… sur le site internet du salon, mais genre deux jours avant, et à condition d’aller dans la news Garo (pas en cherchant les confs) et ils ont dû penser que ça suffisait comme comm’.
      moi j’avais l’info en arrivant (sur l’horaire, tjrs pas sur le thème). finalement, il aurait fallu qu’on se donne rdv tous (je veux dire les JDJistes) pour mieux nous organiser.

      j’en ai fait très peu des confs japanime jusqu’à maintenant, mais la meilleure pour le moment c’était Fujisawa à Orléans, puisqu’il n’y avait eu que des questions de la salle, alors bien sûr c’était foutoir, mais spontané. et Fujisawa répondait bien, son assistant et les éditeurs répondaient aussi, le tout dans la bonne humeur.

      un petit cochon tout rose? si j’avais pas eu mon kiwi vert, je serais jaloux ;-)
      porte toi-bien, je compatis sincèrement.

    On a du se suivre le samedi, impressionnant!

    J’ai été globalement déçu par l’organisation du salon (mais ça peut pas être comme on veut) surtout l’éloignement des diverses scènes de conférences… Je suis tombé sur la conférence Garô un peu par hasard (je ne l’attendais pas là ni à ce moment, comme beaucoup), et comme elle ne portait pas sur Garô… Mais le débat était intéressant et j’avais eut le temps de voir l’expo (en fuyant la rencontre avec Hikaru Nakamura, on se serait cru à une animation de supermarché), alors pourquoi pas.

    Pour les autres conférences, bof bof… Entre les questions du public, les couillons cosplayeurs qui sautaient partout et dont les voix/rires couvraient parfois le son des conférences et des interviewers ou traducteurs pas inspirés, ça n’a pas été le meilleur des moments! Du coup le lendemain, conf pro uniquement, boulot boulot.

    Plus sérieusement, j’étais ravie de visiter le salon en agréable compagnie, j’espère ne pas t’avoir ennuyé à te suivre partout ^^

    Pour ce qui est de la conf Garo, moi j’avais rien vu nulle part, et si je n’en été pas remise à Mackie pour l’organisation de cette journée de samedi, je l’aurais manquée. Dans l’ensemble j’ai trouvé ça intéressant, surtout par l’approche très différente des deux éditeurs présents. Mais je partage l’avis de la majorité, il y avais amalgame entre seinen en général et un certain type de seinen, plus adulte et mature. Des seinen, j’en ai lu des plus débiles tu meurs. C’est pas vraiment de cela qu’on parlait (et heureusement !).

    Quant à Inoue… je sais pas si c’est parce que la journée tirée à sa fin, que je venais de me perdre toute seule dans la foule pendant une heure… Moi j’ai vraiment trouvé ça bateau. Inoue a de la prestance, ça c’est sur. Et heureusement, parce que le reste… Et les fans, franchement !
