Les histoires :
Au sommet d’une gigantesque tour appelée « Hotel » , un robot conserve et protège le génome humain depuis la fin de l’humanité… Après un long coma, une jeune femme se réveille pour revoir l’homme qui dit être son mari, et qui fut aussi son prof quand elle était lycéenne… Un scientifique multiplie sans le vouloir les découvertes les plus géniales, tandis que son obsession est de faire renaître une espèce disparue : le thon rouge, dont la chair fait les meilleurs sashimis… Une femme développe un cancer qui entraînera l’apocalypse… Dans un monde dévasté, une guerrière de 14 ans deviendra la déesse qui ramènera la paix et la liberté…
Ce que j’en pense :
En cinq histoires (et quelques intermèdes comiques) qui naviguent entre anticipation hard-science (Hotel), ou heroic fantasy (Diadem), en passant par la parodie délirante (Rien que pour les thons), Boichi s’amuse à démontrer son indéniable talent graphique, au service d’histoires bien tordues, mais qui ont si peu d’épaisseur que je me suis demandé s’il ne les avait pas improvisées en dessinant. Ce faisant, il se prouve capable du meilleur quand il fait dans la sobriété et l’émotion (Present, poignante histoire d’amour impossible) ; mais aussi du pire quand il part en vrille et oublie l’humour en route (Stephanos, grandiloquente et cradesque fin du monde, très vaguement inspirée de la Bible et du jugement dernier). En parcourant ce volume, j’ai ressenti cette agaçante sensation de lire le recueil inabouti d’un mangaka en roue libre : dès la première histoire (Hotel), ça commence plutôt bien mais Boichi donne l’impression qu’il ne sait pas comment conclure. Idem avec la dernière, dont l’intrigue tient sur un ticket de métro et qui n’a pour seul objectif que de montrer une 
heroic lolita overtatouée mais très court vêtue – imprimé en pages couleurs, ça m’a fait penser au dernier style de Masamune Shirow, c’est dire. C’est joli, et après? Mais quand il est fidèle à lui-même, à sa manière mi-sérieuse mi-chtarbée de développer un délire, je retrouve avec soulagement le Boichi de Space Chef Caisar, avec ses obsessions pour la bouffe, les bimbos et le space opera. Cela donne le récit Rien que pour les thons et c’est assez marrant.
Voilà donc un Hotel particulier, où Boichi agace, amuse, déçoit, bref, c’est du Boichi-Bouzouk. A 10,50€ le volume, même avec 20 pages couleur et une édition soignée, ça fait cher pour une valse avec Boichi.
