Février 2013 sera yaoi… ou (ne sera) pas.

C’est la rumeur qui enfle dans le petit monde de l’édition manga française : un nouvel éditeur de manga lance d’un coup une collection de 10 titres yaoi à 5€ le volume. Oh, wait, wait ! Une rumeur? Un nouvel éditeur? A 5€ le volume? Reprenons et vérifions nos sources.

IDP strikes back ?
La nouvelle était connue depuis juillet 2012, et déjà relayée par les fans et par certains médias web spécialistes, un nouvel éditeur français allait se lancer dans le boy’s love et multipliait les acquisitions de licences (déjà une quarantaine de négociées, semble-t-il). Première surprise, l’éditeur en question n’est ni nouveau, ni spécialisé manga : il s’agit d’IDP, alias Innovation Diffusion Production Home Video Music (ouf!), dont le logo est bien connu des amateurs d’animation puisqu’il figurait au dos des VHS et DVD de Tom Sawyer, Ulysse 31, Lady Oscar ou Cat’s Eye. Je ne vais pas revenir ici sur le passé tumultueux d’IDP, de peur de dire des conneries, c’est assez embrouillé comme ça, merci. Pour faire court : la société IDP avait été mise en redressement avec plan de continuation, peu après son rachat par Déclic Images. Quelques procès plus tard, on ne trouvait plus d’IDP sur le web qu’un lien renvoyant vers la boutique en ligne de Déclic, quant aux coffrets, il s’entassent à vil prix chez des soldeurs comme Noz… Tandis que selon societe.com, IDP serait toujours en redressement.

Étonnant, non? A mon petit niveau, il m’est difficile d’en savoir plus sur le lancement de cette collection, sobrement intitulée : IDP Boy’s Love. Car même si je suppose que des informations ont circulé entre personnes autorisées, il n’y a actuellement pas de site ni de page web de ce nouvel éditeur, consacrée à cette opération. Animeland a certes publié une news le 14 décembre 2012 avec la liste des 10 premiers titres qui paraîtront le 15 février 2013, dont on peut aussi trouver certains visuels (sans doute provisoires, mais certains quand même jolis, voir ci-contre) sur le site de Yaoi Cast. L’information sur le prix (4,99€ le volume) circule sur le web mais n’est pas confirmée, s’agit-il du prix au volume ou du tarif d’une édition online ? Ou seulement d’un coup de bluff ?

La réponse de Taifu
En tous cas, l’info est semble-t-il prise suffisamment au sérieux par Taifu, qui n’a pas attendu pour annoncer sur son site, le 13 décembre 2012, le lancement d’une collection intitulée « les Classiques Taifu » à prix découverte pour le…1er février 2013. Il ne s’agit pas de nouvelles licences, mais de baisses de prix de 8,99€ à 5,95€ sur 24 titres du catalogue, représentant 41 tomes au total.

Voulant en savoir plus, j’ai demandé à Guillaume Kapp quelle était la position officielle de Taifu dans ce qui, aux yeux des lecteurs, peut sembler être une guerre des prix entre deux éditeurs concurrents lesquels, je le rappelle, ont été liés avant le rachat en 2007 d’IDP par Déclic – même s’ils n’ont aujourd’hui plus aucun rapport.

Guillaume a bien voulu me répondre – et je l’en remercie –  afin d’éclairer ma lanterne. Tout d’abord, Taifu n’a pas pour habitude de critiquer un concurrent éditeur, ne serait-ce que pour des raisons de principe : « on fait le même métier, et c’est normal de vouloir faire son possible pour vendre ses titres ». Façon de rappeler que la concurrence est inhérente au métier, et que c’est un marché (de niche, mais un marché quand même). Ceci étant dit, il admet que les annonces concernant IDP, dont ils avaient eux aussi connaissance depuis plusieurs mois, font partie « des raisons qui [les ont] fait lancer [leur] nouvelle collection les classiques Taifu à prix découverte ».

Sachant les efforts accomplis en 2012 par Taifu notamment et surtout lors du lancement d’Ototo, avec la promotion des nouvelles licences (Samidare, Adekan, Spice&Wolf, Clannad), mais aussi la future collection spécial hentai, je pense personnellement qu’on peut en effet comprendre leur réaction, et la considérer comme de bonne guerre. D’un côté, on a un éditeur qui rame sur le shojo/shonen/seinen depuis plusieurs années à cause de son image, et qui réalise une vraie petite révolution sur sa communication, et de l’autre un ancien partenaire devenu concurrent, sortant de presque nulle part, et qui ne mise pour l’instant que sur le buzz et sur le prix… Ça a un petit côté « on rase gratis ». Et comme le dit Guillaume, « on attend de voir la qualité qu’IDP propose ». Pour le moment, on ne peut juger que sur des articles reprenant des communiqués, plus ou moins illustrés de JPG.

D’un autre côté, en tant que lecteur, savoir que l’offre s’élargit à bon compte pour mon porte-monnaie, je ne vais pas me plaindre. Avec deux nouvelles collections à bas prix, j’y vois deux bonnes occasions d’augmenter ma culture dans un domaine que je n’ai commencé à découvrir que tout récemment. D’ailleurs, si les connaisseurs pouvaient jeter un coup d’œil aux titres annoncés par les uns et par les autres, et me donner des conseils de lecture, je suis preneur ! J’ai déjà noté chez Classiques Taifu deux titres de Toko Kawai, dont j’ai apprécié In the Walnut. Février 2013 sera chaud.

    IDP est désormais dirigé par les anciens patrons de Manga-Distribution ; c’est leur nouvelle façade, bien pratique car elle n’a pas encore la même réputation sulfureuse.
    Pour les yaoi, je suppose qu’ils ont flairé le potentiel financier de ce secteur, et qu’ils emploient leur technique habituelle : accumulation de licences et édition à bas prix pour déstabiliser les acteurs historiques du marché (le client ne va voir que ce qu’il va payer et non les magouilles par derrière), rentabilité très basse compensée par la multiplication des éditions, endettement pour acheter les séries auprès des Japonais, et quand ils seront vraiment dans la mouise, ils fermeront boutique pour en ouvrir une autre sous un autre nom, ne laissant derrière eux qu’un marché dévasté.

    A la place de Taifu, j’aurais les glandes !

      je n’ai pas tout compris des histoires passées d’IDP, mais c’est effectivement une technique de management d’entreprise assez particulière…
      pour ma part, je me permets d’ajouter que Taifu baisse des prix sur des titres déjà parus, donc, on sait que les séries sont complètes, et le lecteur ira en connaissance de cause : les titres ont déjà été critiqués, suffit de rechercher les avis pour faire son choix.

        Le passé d’IDP n’est pas bien compliqué : maison fondée par Yves Huchez, spécialisée dans l’animation japonaise. Yves Huchez finit par revendre sa boite à la famille Uzan, déjà propriétaire de Manga-Distribution / Declic-Images, et lorsque leur ancienne boite coule en raison de leurs dettes, ils reportent leurs activités sur IDP.

        Apparemment, c’était un plan prévu de longue date. Le meilleur exemple, c’est leur collection Gold, des coffrets d’anime à bas prix. Comme cette collection dépend d’un label nommé Déclic Collection, nous pouvions penser qu’elle appartenait à Déclic-Images, mais pas du tout ; Déclic-Collection est un label IDP. Donc quand Déclic-Images a fermé ses portes, cela n’a eu aucun impact sur IDP, donc Déclic Collection. Et ils ont pu continuer leurs activités comme si de rien n’était.

        C’est logique, quand on y pense : Déclic-Images étant criblé de dettes, suite à de multiples procès (entre autre), les profits générés par la collection Gold aurait servi uniquement à les couvrir. Mais si cette collection appartient à un autre éditeur, en l’occurrence IDP, aucun soucis. Lorsque Déclic-Images a disparu mais pas la collection Gold, nous avons compris qu’elle ne dépendait pas de cette société.

    Pour ma part, je préférerais une édition online, parce que j’ai déjà trop de papier chez moi. Cependant, je n’y crois pas trop vu la réticence du public pour les mangas dématérialisés. Ou peut-être proposeront-ils les deux, ils en parlaient en tout cas.

    En ce qui concerne la nouvelle collection Taïfu, j’ai déjà tous les titres. Mais je suis très contente de voir que l’éditeur cherche à favoriser la découverte de ses anciens mangas.

    En fait, il y a quatre titres de Tôko Kawai dans la liste (Cut à Bondz). J’ai préféré Cut et, dans un autre genre Caffe Latte, mais Juste au coin de la rue a plu aussi. Les avis sont plus mitigés sur Bondz. Pour le reste, difficile d’ignorer Love Mode et son succès au Japon. Ce BL déjà ancien a popularisé le principe des couples multiples au sein du genre. L’auteur ne se focalise pas sur un couple particulier et développe tous ceux présents dans son histoire, quitte à « oublier » ses héros pendant quelques tomes. Mais c’est un BL qui ne parle que de relations amoureuses (et sexuelles), où les couples développés sont tous gays, où il y a régulièrement de grandes différences d’âge entre les partenaires, où le côté dramatique est très marqué (même si ça finit bien), où le premier volume a crispé un certain nombre de lecteurs… Ces différents choix peuvent ne pas te plaire. Pour ma part, j’ai trouvé les différents personnages très attachants, à de rares exceptions près, et AoexNaoya quoi *o*

    Rien n’est impossible est humoristique et c’est la série qui précède The tyrant who fall in love (mais c’est surtout The tyrant qui plait). Cependant, le couple de Rien n’est impossible affronte un certain nombre de choses qui n’arrive pas à un couple de BL en général (l’homophobie, la relation sexuelle désastreusement maladroite au début, la famille très envahissante…). Je trouve que ce titre garde un côté léger grâce à son humour, mais peut-être trop léger justement.

    Sinon, Dog Style est assez surprenant : BL et baston, avec des persos au physique carré et viril, de l’humour aussi. Le Syndrome du Tournesol a une intrigue intéressante, mais qui aurait mérité deux/trois volumes pour bien se développer. My life with you m’a beaucoup plu grâce à son côté action. Hélas, il s’arrête quand l’intrigue devient plus intéressante ><, sans oublier le blondinet un peu saoulant par moments aussi. Lovers and Souls te permettrait de découvrir Miyamoto Kano, dont les BL sont parmi les plus réalistes (même si je préfère Vanilla Star). Après l'orage a aussi ce côté réaliste de la relation amoureuse, avec des persos aussi très éloignés du côté longiligne de certains BL. Pour Wild Rock, tu y trouveras tous les clichés qu'on s'attend à voir dans le BL, mais à l'époque de la Préhistoire XD.

    Réminiscences m'a plu car j'ai toujours eu un faible pour les relations au départ tordues (je suis pas sûre de devoir le conseiller en fait…). J'ai vraiment bien accroché à La vie raffinée de Monsieur Kayashima, mais c'est aussi assez subjectif. Il n'a rien de spécialement original ou inhabituel comparé à d'autres BL. Si tu veux tenter le BL allemand, je te conseillerais Larmes d'Ange dans cette liste avec son côté fantastique. Les titres que je n'ai pas cité ne sont pas forcément mauvais (même si Escape ou In The End volent franchement bas), mais je n'en garde pas un souvenir particulier.

        Wild Rock c’est fort quand même ^^ grands fous rires à sa lecture personnellement :p. Pas que ce soit foncièrement drôle, mais les tenues quoi….

        C’est prépublié dans un mag yaoi (et ça a aussi rejoint la collection chez Taifu depuis la réédition), mais mon titre chouchou de chez Taifu est bien Love Me Tender de KiKi (on en revient toujours …).

        Enfin, j’essaierai peut-être, un jour, In the Walnut.

    Ce n’est pas chez Taifu, mais un BL plutôt hors des sentiers battus que je t’invite à essayer: Tango de est em, aux éditions H. Là, on a un dessin assez réaliste et des histoires assez adultes, des rencontres fugaces, je n’y ai pas trouvé le ton habituel des yaoi.

    Je trouve l’idée de Taifu pour cette collection excellente bien que je ne sois pas vraiment cliente de yaoi.

    Pour conclure je dirai juste que chaque éditeur à sa stratégie, sa façon de faire ^^.
    Concernant Taifu on cherche avant tout des grosses licences qui sont très attendues et qui ont l’avantage de satisfaire les deux publics que l’on peut trouver dans la communauté Yaoï, à savoir : Les fans et le grand public.
    Ensuite, on accorde beaucoup d’importance à la qualité d’édition de nos titres car on a un public exigeant (normal ^^) qu’on veut satisfaire.
    Et puis … sans tout ce travail de fond, même un bon titre aurait du mal à se vendre …

    Concernant Dog Style j’ajouterai juste que le fait qu’il sorte un peu du lot notamment au niveau de l’ambiance, l’atmosphère vient du fait que son auteur est un homme ;) .
    Chose rare !

    Cette fois-ci, le site d’IDP est en ligne. Les abonnés peuvent déjà accéder à 10 mangas en streaming, en attendant de recevoir la version papier. Pour ma part, j’aurais préféré un téléchargement définitif sans manga papier, mais j’ai l’impression que cette option n’aurait plu qu’à très peu de gens.

    En cadeau, j’ai noté l’envoi de 神官は王を恋い慕う, un roman en 5 volumes illustré par Hinako Takanaga (Rien n’est impossible, My tyrant who fall in love…). Si je me fie à la couverture, on aurait droit à de la fantasy plutôt qu’à une sempiternelle romance lycéenne ou entre salarymen.
