Si l’on considère que le lectorat yaoi est à plus de 80% féminin, par analogie on peut supposer que le yuri s’adresse principalement aux mecs, non? Et notez que je n’ai pas hésité une seconde à mettre les termes yaoi et analogie dans la même phrase, bien que ce soit extrêmement périlleux. Mais pour se placer dans le registre scientifique, je peux témoigner à titre personnel que le spectacle de deux jolies filles qui se font des calins excite bien plus de zones de mon cerveau, que lorsque je lis du yaoi. Naaan, j’ai dit : cerveau. Et qu’est-ce que cela prouve? Euh, hé bien, que ce dimanche matin j’ai du mal a reconnecter les neurones dans le bon ordre.
Petit rappel : le yuri, c’est quoi? En japonais, yuri veut dire fleur de lys, mais je ne pense pas que cela aie un quelconque rapport avec le monarchisme, ni avec le drapeau québecois, hein. Plutôt le symbole de la pureté, ou de la virginité. En tous cas le yuri est progressivement apparu en manga d’abord comme un sous-genre du shojo, indirectement abordé dans des gros succès comme la Rose de Versailles, Sailor Moon ou Utena, avant de devenir un genre à part entière, mettant en scène des relations lesbiennes de façon plus ou moins explicites. En France, les premières parutions notables du genre remontent aux années 2004-2006, avec des titres comme Love my life, de Yamaji Ebine (Asuka), Blue, de Kiriko Nananan (Sakka – je viens de le lire et je vous en reparlerai prochainement) ou Complément affectif, de Mari Okazaki (Delcourt). Avec la parution en 2011 de Girl Friends, de Milk Morinaga, Taifu a lancé à son tour une collection yuri dédiée, et on peut dire qu’ils étaient attendus au tournant, vu qu’ils étaient déjà présents dans le yaoi depuis 2005. Sans plus tarder, je vous propose mes impressions de newbie sur trois des sept titres parus à ce jour dans cette catégorie. N’y connaissant pas grand chose, j’ai choisi sur le seul critère des visuels de couverture et du résumé de quatrième de couv.
Je commencerai par Hanjuku Joshi, d’Akiko Morishima. C’est une série finie en deux tomes, ce qui est bien pour une découverte. Les couvertures sont claires : va y avoir du câlin assez rapidement. L’histoire peut être résumée en deux lignes : Dans un lycée privé pour filles (pratique), deux ados (une petite au physique de poupée et une grande à l’allure de garçon manqué) tombent amoureuses et découvrent progressivement les délices de la sexualité. Stop. Alors si comme moi vous aimez qu’on vous raconte une histoire et qu’on vous propose des personnages bien campés, passez votre chemin : ici, on se déshabille dès la page 2 et on ne perd pas de temps à tergiverser sur le passé des héroïnes, c’est tout juste si au fil des pages on apprend que l’une et l’autre ont toujours été attirées par les filles (ah, ouf! je suis rassuré). Les ficelles scénaristiques sont exclusivement au service de la mise en scène des passages érotiques, mais finalement, n’est-ce pas ce qu’on est venu chercher? Parce que oui, Hanjuku Joshi s’assume comme un yuri explicite, et c’est ainsi qu’il fonctionne : les scènes de sexe sont jolies à regarder, limite étranges avec le look top kawai des deux amies, et cela s’adresse à un public masculin. 
Si ce titre ne restera pas pour moi inoubliable, il remplit le cahier des charges de l’émoustillage, c’est déjà ça. Le même dessin avec une histoire un peu plus conséquente, et ça fera un bon manga. Reste qu’il pose deux questions gênantes : 1- tout de même, du cul avec des mineures, il n’y a pas un terme pour désigner ça? et 2- si c’est ça le yuri, à quoi m’attendre avec les deux titres suivants?
J’aborde donc le titre suivant avec un mélange de prudence et de curiosité : c’est Une recette secrète, de Milk Morinaga. J’ai cité l’auteure plus haut pour Girl Friends, pas lu mais le titre a semble-t-il été bien reçu, par le public et la critique. J’avais choisi ce titre à cause… de son titre, la cuisine étant une de mes passions (avec les mangas, la musique classique et, euh, ça ne vous regarde pas). Bon, j’évacue tout de suite ce composant : de cuisine, il ne sera quasiment pas question. Je veux dire, ni recette, ni préparation, ça se limite au fait que des lycéennes (encore!) se réunissent dans un club de cuisine pour préparer des cupcakes. Bon, en même temps, je n’attendais pas non plus à ce qu’on me détaille au gramme près les ingrédients des différentes recettes d’okonomiyaki, ni la technique de découpe du fugu. Mais enfin, des cupcakes ! A la place, l’histoire se concentre sur les tentatives répétées d’une bimbo écervelée pour séduire la présidente du club de cuisine, et sur les sacrifices qu’elle doit consentir pour y parvenir : apprendre à cuisiner, alors qu’elle est nulle. La tension monte inexorablement : Wakatsuki va-t-elle réussir à violer Horikawa, ce qui dans cette ambiance shojo consiste essentiellement à lui rouler une pelle? Et accessoirement va-t-elle apprendre à faire cuire des nouilles? Bon, vous l’aurez compris, il n’y a pas plus d’histoire ici que dans Hanjuku Joshi, mais le souci c’est qu’il n’y a pas de sexe non plus. Alors qu’est-ce qui reste? L’humour, heureusement. En fait, Une recette secrète n’est un yuri que parce que l’objet du désir de l’héroïne est une fille. Remplacez-la par un bômec, et vous aurez un shojo tout ce qu’il y a de classique. Et même plutôt sympathique, tout compte fait, pourvu qu’on aime le genre humoristique. Je ne déteste pas, mais je ne suis pas vraiment le public cible (alors que pour Hanjuku Joshi, il y avait au moins un élément qui me concernait en tant que public cible). Dommage pour la cuisine, j’aurai accroché si le sujet avait été traité de façon moins secondaire. Ah ! si, j’ai quand même appris une chose : la technique de découpage des rondelles de carottes en forme de fleur. Utile, non?
Ok… après un yuri explicite et joli mais à l’histoire mince, et un girls love soft et kawai pour collégiennes, est-ce que je peux encore espérer du troisième titre une intrigue avec un minimum de profondeur? Je dois dire que je commence à m’inquiéter, parce que renseignements pris, l’auteure, Ken Kurogane, s’est précédemment illustrée par un yuri des plus explicites, Shojo sect, qui comme son titre-programme le laisse deviner, est un best-of des positions pour lesbiennes, qui en donne pour leur argent aux amateurs du genre. Mais j’ai préféré lire Pas à pas, nouveauté de la rentrée, dont la couverture m’a séduit par sa sobriété et son romantisme. Bon, inutile de faire durer le suspense : j’ai enfin le titre qui me correspond. Voilà une histoire de type tranche de vie, qui raconte sans pathos ni scènes ecchi gratuites comment naît la trouble relation entre une jeune adulte et l’adolescente à problèmes qu’elle a décidé d’adopter. Ce n’est pas via une courte ligne droite que le sujet est abordé, genre t’es mignonne je suis goudou allez on baise?, mais via les mille-et-un détours de la vie quotidienne, hésitant entre amour mère-fille et attirance mutuelle.
Ah oui, j’oubliais de vous présenter l’histoire (c’est qu’avec les deux titres ci-dessus, j’ai un peu perdu l’habitude) : au début du tome 1, Minato, jeune professeure de lycée, vient chercher Otome, une de ses élèves, pour la soustraire à des parents indignes qui passent leur temps à se déchirer et ne s’occupent pas d’elle. Nous assistons à la cohabitation entre la jeune femme et l’adolescente, Minato cherchant d’abord à lui reconstruire un quotidien stable, dans un environnement social normal et en lui offrant une affection dont elle était privée. Mais sur cette relation mère-fille se greffe un élément inattendu : Minato découvre qu’elle est attirée par Otome, qui lui fait ouvertement des avances. Comment faire pour garder la distance que lui impose sa position de tutrice et d’adulte responsable, tout en restant honnête et en acceptant ses propres sentiments?
C’est clair, Pas à pas réussit complètement, là où Hanjuku Joshi et Une recette secrète échouent à mon avis partiellement : traiter de la relation amoureuse entre femmes, et en outre aborder la question difficile d’un amour interdit impliquant une mineure, avec finesse, humour et surtout simplicité. Rien n’est évacué : ni la question du désir physique, qui pose problème, mais qui est évoquée avec un mélange réussi de pudeur et de franchise, ni la question du trouble des sentiments. Surtout, Pas à pas offre de vrais personnages, crédibles, touchants, et évoluant dans un quotidien réaliste. Il n’y a pas de scènes érotiques, tout juste deux ou trois passages coquins (on reste au niveau du bisou, ou de la scène de salle de bains avec regards échangés, pas plus). Et puis, signe qu’il se passe quelque chose, je me suis rendu compte que j’attends déjà le tome 3, et que j’ai envie de savoir comment l’histoire va se poursuivre.
Le dessin est stylisé, les héroïnes sont jolies sans être outrancièrement sexy, elles sont, comment dire… normales. Je me suis demandé si Minato n’était pas un clin d’oeil à… Misato d’Evangelion, à qui elle ressemble tant par le nom que par le physique, et même un peu le caractère et le mode de vie plutôt bordélique. Après tout, dans NGE, Misato héberge aussi des adolescents (Shinji et Asuka) en rupture familiale, essaie de s’occuper de leur éducation et se laisse aller à provoquer des situations, euh, embarrassantes. Bon la comparasion s’arrête là, mais est-elle fortuite?
En conclusion, vous l’aurez donc compris : testé et approuvé, je décerne le prix spécial du yuri à … Pas à pas !

Au final je crois que j’aime surtout le yuri que l’on peur voir dans les josei, comme certains titres que tu a cité, même si souvent ils débouchent sur une relation hetero à la fin T^T
Dans Blue, la relation hétéro est un échec, un retour à la vie sociale « normale » à cause d’une société conservatrice, et cela s’achève dans les larmes pour la narratrice. Pas vraiment une apologie, donc.
J’ai l’impression que les josei/yuri publiés par Asuka n’ont pas convaincu les fans de yuri (cf comm lus sur quelques sites), mais je ne sais pas trop si les yuri actuels vont convaincre le public en général. J’ai déjà lu des critiques négatives sur les Ebine Yamaji, qui espéraient que d’autres yuri finiraient par sortir en France (mais est-ce les bons qui sont parus…). Pour ma part, Pas à pas est une bonne surprise, même si je trouve Girl Friends plus intéressant (le spin off sort cette semaine). Le seul titre à tendance yuri qui m’a vraiment convaincue, c’est Oniisama E en anime.
Chez Asuka, et en tant que fan épisodique de yuri, j’avouerai avoir vraiment apprécié une oeuvre comme Entre les draps, explicite et assez dure pour la protagoniste principale.
En revanche cet article m’a permis de prendre conscience d’une chose, tous les yuris que j’ai véritablement retenus jusqu’ici étaient des one-shot. Alors faut-il comprendre que le long terme n’est pas la meilleure idée pour ce genre d’histoire ?
Sinon, pour l’auteur, si vous restez encore un peu dans cette mouvance yuri, je ne peux que vous conseiller de fureter du côté de Lonely Wolf, Lonely sheep et Lonesome Echo (première histoire) aux styles graphiques très proches. Tous deux n’ont rien d’explicite, à vrai dire ce sont de simples phrases estampillées durant l’histoire, et de manière globale j’ai aimé la légèreté qui s’en dégageait. A tenter.
les one-shots, on a tendance à l’oublier, sont aussi une bonne façon de raconter une histoire. à quoi bon tartiner sur des dizaines de tomes ce qui n’a pas besoin de l’être? d’excellents one-shots, j’en ai chroniqués pas mal et ce sont souvent des oeuvres d’auteur, qui ont beaucoup de choses à dire.

… Bon, en vrai, j’ai laissé en plan la lecture d’une recette secrète à la moitié pour le moment, j’ai vraiment du mal avec l’auteur…
Contrairement à Natth et à pas mal de garçons, j’ai un mal fou avec cet auteur qui a souvent des héroïnes avec des préoccupations girly à un point qui me donne la nausée.
Pour les titres yuri sortis chez nous à ce jour, je crois qu’on peut s’intéresser à Sasameki Koto et Fleurs Bleues, mais qui ont tous les deux une publication lente et douleureuse, possiblement peu populaire…

Je n’ai jamais lu de yuri et j’avoue être curieuse. Mais, au vue des deux premières critiques, ce n’est pas très tentant. Pourquoi pas essayer avec le dernier titre. J’ai aussi été séduite par la couverture
je sais que d’autre que moi ont aussi apprécié Pas à Pas… Yuri ou pas, c’est une bonne histoire, et les personnages sont vraiment attachants.
